Pregnancy and Travel

When I was seven months pregnant with my youngest child, I had the opportunity to travel to Africa and definitely have a challenge. In addition to getting approval from your doctor, here are some of my own personal tips for traveling during pregnancy.

Make a List
Anyone who has ever been pregnant knows that memory is not at the high point during pregnancy. One of the best things that every woman can expect to do is make a list of everything you want to take with you on your journey. It can be easy to forget many things and this will only weaken your trip.

Take the Cake
Pack a healthy snack in your bag to take a flight or car trip. Pregnant women can get hungry so quickly or have a particular desire that can not be found. Pack a special snack bags with the things you will need. Sometimes other countries do not have what you want or if you move around and need an extra boost of energy that is much easier to have something with you, rather than go on a day trip just to look for specific snacks you want. Keep in mind where you are traveling to and what you will and will not have access to.

Break
Sometimes when you are traveling with others they are not at the same speed. A pregnant woman can tire very easily and others may not notice. When time travel can get away from you by doing different activities and if you become tired and need rest then talk so others know what happened. If you push yourself too hard just because other people want you can endanger your pregnancy. Speak if you need to rest or break.

Maternity dress
Depending on how long you’ll be missing is prudent to evaluate the size of your maternity clothes, and whether they will fit after a few weeks or months. Travel to Africa is not a one or two days and I changed in size dramatically when I was there. Pack smart when planning a trip and make sure that your maternity clothes will match the entire time you go.

Take your favorite pillow
Sometimes it can be rough sleeping and traveling during pregnancy can make even more difficult. The best thing you can do is take your favorite pillow and blanket even if you want. This will help you and make it easier to sleep while away from the comfort of your own home.

Travel can be very fun and interesting, but if you are pregnant take extra precautions to ensure that you and your baby are taken care of.
